Hangman Hill to Bridgefield Village roadwork begins Monday

The long-awaited road reconstruction of Highway 2 from Hangman Hill to Bridgefield Village in St Thomas will start on Monday, April 7.

The project, which is being carried out by Infra Construction Inc. for the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW), is expected to continue for approximately 90 days, subject to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Construction will be carried out daily from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will include excavation of the roadway, installation of sidewalks, upgrades to drainage, and repaving of the road.

Road users are advised that the road will be closed at Rugby Plantation and the junction of Highway 2 and Hangman Hill. Motorists travelling east from Jackson to Bridgefield on Highway 2 will be diverted at the Lester Vaughan School towards Shop Hill. Vehicles travelling west from Hopewell Plantation to Bridgefield on Highway 2 will be detoured onto Hangman Hill towards Shop Hill.

The reconstruction of Hangman Hill to Bridgefield Village marks the first phase of the MTW’s comprehensive plan to reconstruct Highway 2 from Cane Garden to Bridgefield. The work is being done under the Ministry’s CAF Roads Programme, which is funded by the Development Bank for Latin America and the Caribbean.
