Education Local News Five Cave Hill students among top oral presenters at UWI postgraduate conference Barbados Today17/04/202501.2K views Five students from The University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus, have been recognised among the top 12 oral presentation winners at the second annual One UWI Postgraduate Student Conference. The three-day academic event, hosted by the School for Graduate Studies and Research (SGSR), was held November 20–22, 2024, under the theme Collaborative Horizons: Interdisciplinary Visions for Caribbean and Global Progress. The Cave Hill awardees who impressed judges with their engaging and high-quality presentations are: Shamika Spencer, Faculty of Science and Technology; Judy-Ann Auld and Ta’Neil James, Faculty of Humanities and Education; Raphica Scott, Faculty of Medical Sciences; and Justin Carter, Faculty of Social Sciences. The remaining winners were all from the St Augustine Campus: Aaron Haralsingh and Dr Candice Sant, Faculty of Medical Sciences; Samantha Allahar and Alicia Hospedales, Faculty of Social Sciences; Tynessa Gay and Augustus Thomas, Faculty of Food and Agriculture; and Arti Ramsaroop, Faculty of Humanities and Education. Pro Vice-Chancellor for Graduate Studies and Research, Professor Aldrie Henry-Lee, praised the standard of research on display. “I am very pleased with the success of the second postgraduate conference,” she said. “Thank you to all members of The UWI’s postgraduate community for this collaborative initiative. We were honoured to highlight these remarkable presentations and acknowledge the profound impact of our students’ research. Congratulations to all awardees, and I look forward to welcoming everyone to the third postgraduate student conference, scheduled for November 12-15, 2025.” Winners were awarded electronic gift vouchers on March 28 in recognition of their academic rigour, clarity of expression, and contributions to advancing knowledge in the conference’s key focus areas.
