Empire, Windward pushing for victories on day 3 of division championship

Empire and Sagicor Windward are in prime positions to record victories after day two of the second series in the 2025 Barbados Cricket Association Elite Division three-day Championship played on Saturday.

Empire began their day with a six-run first innings lead at Bank Hall over Bayview Hospital YMPC and five wickets in hand.

All-rounder Shaquille Cumberbatch took his overnight score of 15 to 74, facing 111 balls as Empire totalled 230 all out with an overall lead of 119. Shamar Marshall picked up a five-wicket haul for YMPC with figures of 5-45 in 15 overs.

YMPC showed some fight in their second innings when Zavia Trotman made a well played 58 in 64 balls, but it was the left arm spin of Camarie Boyce which wreaked havoc on the YMPC middle order as they fell from 62/2 to 165/8 at the end of day two, a lead of 46 runs going into the final day.

Scores: Bayview Hospital YMPC 111 all out (29.4 overs) (Kemal Smith 30; Jomel Warrican 4-7) and 165-8 (33 overs) (Zavia Trotman 58 – 64 balls; Camarie Boyce 4-25).

Sagicor Windward are looking to stamp their mark after being promoted to the Elite division this season. Captain Tennyson Roach Jr recorded an unbeaten 124 to push his team to maximum batting points over Superb Blendz Gladiola at the Rices playing field.

Resuming the day on 74 not out and his team on 194 for 4, Roach batted a total of 172 balls and struck 9 threes and 4 fours to lead his team to 320 for 5 declared after 62 overs, denying Gladiola those ever-important bowling points in the process. All rounder Jayden Roberts also chipped in with an aggressive 67 in 53 balls with 7 threes and 9 fours.

Gladiola, in their reply, were bowled out for 156. Jayden Hoyte top scored with 48 while Shomari Gittens scored 42. Teenage spinner, Akobi Crichlow-Byer led the attack for Windward with 3 wickets for 65 runs as Gladiola were forced to follow on.

Gladiola are currently 2/0 in their second innings, trailing by 162 runs.

After losing day one to wet conditions, Wildey and IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire are in a tense battle for first innings points at the Friendship playing field.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Yorkshire fell from 71/1 to 174 all out behind a magnificent spell of bowling from Wildey’s off-spinner Tariq O’neale.

O’neale bowled 10.5 overs and picked up 7 wickets for 59 runs. Opening batter, Jayden Webster top scored for Yorkshire with 47 in 51 balls while Rico Webb made 43.

In their turn at the crease, Wildey ended the day on 157/7, 17 runs behind with 3 wickets in hand. Barbados Pride opening batter Zachary McCaskie made 60 in 71 balls while Nimar Bolden remained unbeaten on 60 from 83 balls.

The Spin brothers Ravendra and Indal Persaud claimed 5 wickets between them thus far.
