Thief jailed, ordered to compensate victim

Mushtaaq Saied Clarke will spend the next three months in prison after admitting to theft.

The 32-year-old of Hothersal Turning, St Michael, was also ordered by Magistrate Manila Renee to pay compensation after pleading guilty to stealing a chair valued $200 and four candles valued at $100, belonging to Jennifer Hinds, between June 15 and 16.

The No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court heard that the complainant had secured her home on the first date, but found the items missing the following morning. CCTV camera footage showed Clarke removing the items. A police patrol saw the accused and arrested him. None of the items were recovered.

After sentencing Clarke, Magistrate Renee told him that he must pay $300 in compensation to Hinds by October 31 or he will spend two weeks at Dodds Prison.
