The University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus has renamed its School for Graduate Studies and Research Building in honour of Emerita Professor V. Eudine Barriteau. During the ceremony held on Wednesday at the Cave Hill Campus, Barriteau was recognised for her leadership in expanding graduate education and advancing gender and development studies. She is the first woman in the campus’ history to have a building named after her. Tributes were led by Professor Cynthia Barrow-Giles, who credited Barriteau with helping to transform the institution and break barriers in academia. Also paying tribute was her son, Cabral Barriteau-Foster, who described her as the lighthouse of the family. Principal Professor Clive Landis praised Barriteau for steering the campus through a difficult period between 2015 and 2021 which was marked by financial strain, a pandemic, and declining enrolment. The newly renamed building previously housed Barriteau when she served as Campus Coordinator for Graduate Studies.
