Grief in Lucas Street as family mourns road crash victim

A neighbour in Lucas Street, St Philip, described 29-year-old Rajani Obrien Parris as “a sweet boy” whose struggles never diminished the kindness he showed to those around him.

 

“Rajani was a sweet boy, honestly speaking…,” the neighbour recalled, standing just a short walk from where his family lives. “You cudda still tell he to do anything for you, and he would do it. Honestly, Rajani ain’t need to go down like that.”

 

Police formally identified Parris as the pedestrian knocked down and killed by a car along Foursquare Road, St Philip, around 11:20 last Tuesday night. He died at the scene.

 

At the family home, Parris’ sister Rachaela Barton and mother Suzette Barton-Greenidge spoke quietly, their grief still fresh almost one week later.

 

“He was a loving, kind and helpful child,” Rajani’s mother said. She confirmed he had no children and no long-term partner. “He used to work, but then he stopped,” she added. Parris divided his time between the Lucas Street house and his brother’s residence.
