Government intends 2% minimum wage increase from next month

The Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Third Sector has given notice of its intention to increase the national minimum wage and the sectoral minimum wage for security guards by two per cent, effective January 21, 2026.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry said the adjustment is being made under the Minimum Wage Act, 2017-4.

The draft Minimum Wage (National and Sectoral Minimum Wage) Order is available on the ministry’s website at www.labour.gov.bb and the Barbados Government Information Service website at www.gisbarbados.gov.bb.

Members of the public may submit objections up to January 18, 2026, in accordance with Section 7 of the Act, via email to ps@labour.gov.bbmrsu@labour.gov.bb and clo@labour.gov.bb.

Each objection must include the grounds for the objection, the objector’s interest in the matter, and any recommended additions or amendments.
