Portvale workers off the job for a second day

(FP)

Approximately 50 employees at the Portvale sugar factory have once again withdrawn their labour. Barbados TODAY understands that workers represented by the Unity Workers’ Union (UWU), led by General Secretary Caswell Franklyn, took the action after several of them reported for duty today but were reportedly instructed to return home due to an arrangement involving another union.

This development prompted the remaining UWU members on site to also walk off the job.

A meeting is currently underway, with further updates expected upon its conclusion.
