Knight bows out after epic Round of 16 battle in DR

Tyrese Knight was the lone remaining Barbadian in action.

Barbadian table tennis player Tyrese Knight’s impressive run at the ITTF-Americas Central American and Caribbean Table Tennis Championships in the Dominican Republic came to a hard-fought end in the Round of 16.

Knight pushed Guatemala’s Ricardo Gatica to the limit in a gripping seven-set encounter, ultimately falling 11-9, 10-12, 6-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-7, 11-13.

The Barbadian had shown good form during the singles competition.

During his opening group stage encounter he defeated Jorge Buenrostro of Mexico 11-5, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9, before stopping Mehki Simmons of Antigua and Barbuda 11-5, 11-4, 11-4.

 

Up next, he recorded another straight sets win, this time over Caleb Howard of St Vincent and the Grenadines 11-2, 11-5, 11-4, before being granted a bye in the round of 32.
