Williams cops gold at Velocity Fest

Sada Williams

Barbados’ Commonwealth Games champion and multiple national record holder Sada Williams continued her early season buildup with a solid 400m victory in Jamaica.

Competing during the Velocity Fest, the Olympian and World Championship bronze medalist won the event in 51:38 seconds, ahead of Jamaican star Shericka Jackson.

Williams said she is hoping to defend her title at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow Scotland.

“Well as you saw I ran the back stretch way too hard, and then I didn’t really have enough to bring me home in the last 100m. It’s always a good thing ( competing against Jackson). A little friendly competition because you know we train together, so to compete with her is like a little friendly competition going on.

“The Commonwealth Games is this year and the last Commonwealth Games I won gold. To repeat that and give my country another gold medal, that would be really great,” Williams said.

Williams is one of the high profile competitors, who is expected to participate in the Barbados Grand Prix on July 4 at the Usain Bolt Complex.
