BIUSM secures re-registration with the BAC

The Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC) has officially presented a certificate of re-registration to the Bridgetown International University School of Medicine (BIUSM), reinforcing the institution’s continued compliance with national standards for tertiary education and its ongoing commitment to academic excellence.

The presentation took place on April 23, 2026, at the BAC’s Phoenix Centre headquarters, where Director, Dr. Ganapriya Kancherla and Executive Dean, Dr. Chrisita Powlett accepted the certificate on the university’s behalf. The occasion marked another milestone for BIUSM, which has been registered with the Council since February 2022.

Re-registration is a cornerstone of the BAC’s quality assurance framework, requiring institutions to undergo periodic, comprehensive evaluations of their operations, academic standards, governance structures, and student support systems. This rigorous process ensures that institutions remain accountable, responsive, and aligned with best practices, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement across Barbados’ tertiary education sector.

In acknowledging the achievement, Director, Dr. Kancherla expressed appreciation for the guidance provided by the BAC’s Quality Assurance team noting the value of their guidance as the institution advances its development of additional medical education programmes.

As Barbados continues to strengthen the quality of its tertiary education sector, processes such as registration work to highlight the responsibility to uphold standards that benefit students, employers, and the wider society.
