(FP) Prime Minister Gaston Browne secured a commanding victory in Thursday’s general election, leading the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) to a decisive win after calling the polls nearly two years ahead of schedule. Preliminary results show the ruling party won 15 of the 17 seats, a significant expansion from its narrow 9-7 victory in the 2023 election. In a message to supporters, Browne expressed gratitude for the strong mandate. “We are humbled and honoured by your support and confidence. Now is the time to move forward together, build on our gains and continue our work…toward the betterment of our society and the upliftment of our people,” he said. Addressing the nation, Browne said the result reflected confidence in his leadership and the party’s vision for continued socio-economic development. “We are here to serve all the people of Antigua and Barbuda…education, jobs, business opportunities will be open to all who are prepared to seize them,” he said. He urged citizens to take advantage of opportunities being created, stressing that no one would be left behind if they were willing to move forward. The Prime Minister also pointed to ongoing national projects aimed at transforming communities and strengthening the economy, adding that the government would build on that foundation with new initiatives. “And as we build on the foundation…we will make sure that we continue to enhance the dignity of our country,” Browne said, encouraging citizens to remain confident and assertive on the regional and international stage. Despite the scale of the victory, Browne struck a measured tone, saying it was not a moment for celebration but for continued work. “From all indications…that in itself is a resounding mandate for which we are eternally grateful,” he said.
