(PR) Sagicor is ramping up its nationwide environmental campaign, with the planting of evergreen trees across all 11 parishes on the island, as the group continues celebrations to mark its 185th anniversary. The initiative forms part of a wider legacy programme, designed to create greener communities, support climate resilience and leave a lasting environmental impact across Barbados. The programme officially began this February with a ceremonial tree planting led by President and CEO of Sagicor Financial Company Ltd Andre Mousseau, at its Wildey offices. This symbolised the start of the Groupwide initiative, where 185 trees will be planted across several operations and the company’s continued investment in national development. Over the coming months, Sagicor executives, students and educators will participate in coordinated planting exercises at schools and key locations throughout Barbados. Senior leaders are expected to serve as parish ambassadors, engaging directly with school communities and encouraging students to become long-term guardians of the trees planted in their areas. A special focus will also be placed on Bridgetown, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where a dedicated cluster of trees will highlight Sagicor’s historic ties to the capital while contributing to cooler, greener urban spaces. The selected evergreen trees are expected to provide long-term environmental benefits, including shade, cooling and enhanced biodiversity. Each parish will also feature sustainably crafted markers, designed to stand as enduring symbols of the initiative as Sagicor looks towards the future. The latest tree planting initiative took place on Arbor Day at the Estates at St George, where five trees were planted. Vice President of Project Development Ezra Prescod, said the initiative reflects Sagicor’s wider commitment to community building and sustainability. “The Estates at St George was born out of Sagicor’s desire to lead through meaningful community development. It was designed by Sagicorians to be a green, wellness-focused and health-supportive community for people of all ages. As Sagicor celebrates 185 years, planting trees here represents the enduring legacy of what the company means to the community, and there is no better place to do it than at The Estates.” The initiative reinforces Sagicor’s commitment to environmental stewardship, community engagement and building a more sustainable future for generations to come.
