St Philip man admits assaulting police officer

A St Philip man has admitted assaulting and resisting a police sergeant and will return to court later this month for sentencing.

Stephan Shaquon Lorde, 30, of Parish Land, St Philip, appeared before Magistrate Bernadeth John in the District ‘C’ Magistrates’ Court and admitted to having an offensive weapon, resisting and assaulting Sergeant Troy Jordan during the execution of his duty, and damaging his police shirt on May 9.

The court heard that police responded to a home in St Philip following a report of a dispute. On arrival, the accused was observed with a flick knife in his right pants pocket and was asked to give an account of it being in his possession. 

After it was taken from him and he was informed of the offence, he replied: “I ain’t care. Wunna don’t know what I going through.”

The accused then began throwing his hands in the police officer’s face despite being told to desist. Lorde then struck Jordan in his chest and was arrested. The accused struggled with the officer, and other police at the scene helped subdue him. The sergeant then realised that his shirt had been torn at the neck.

Releasing Lorde on bail of $5 000 with surety, the magistrate adjourned the case until June 23.
