Greenfield man jailed for firearms in Garden Land shooting

A St Michael man already serving time for an ammunition offence has been sentenced to an additional six years and nine months after admitting to discharging a firearm and endangering life.

Stephon Davidson Freeman confessed to endangering life and use of firearm offences.

The 26-year-old of Greenfield, St Michael, appeared before Justice Carlisle Greaves and pleaded guilty to discharging a firearm in Garden Land, St Michael, a public place, and in a manner which placed Kezra Lewis Wilson in danger of death or serious bodily harm, and to using a firearm without having a valid licence to do so.

The offences occurred on November 24, 2020.

Acting Senior State Counsel Anastacia McMeo-Boyce told the No. 3 Supreme Court that Wilson was sitting in a gallery having a conversation with three other persons when he looked up and saw a man wearing a dark coloured shirt and short pants running toward them. He alerted the others and heard loud explosions, causing them to scamper into the residence. Several other explosions were heard as they ran into the backyard before they stopped.

A check of the house revealed several bullet holes in the residence. Investigations led to Freeman.

The convicted man declined to make a statement to the court.

Justice Greaves noted that the maximum sentence for a use of firearm was 12 years, but pointed out that as the matter was a subsequent conviction, the starting point must be higher, before reaching 15 years.

A one-third discount was given, before time was deducted for delay and two years and three months for his remand time on each count, leaving six years.

The sentences are to run concurrently.
