Police warn of fake cybercrime notice

The Barbados Police Service (TBPS) is informing the public that a cybercrime notice circulating on social media claiming to be from a “Barbados Cyber Crime Security Authority” is not authentic and did not originate from the police.

According to a TBPS release the fraudulent message states that “we have identified all of your online activities which go against the Barbados cyber security laws 2025 amended”.

It further alleges “the police commission request your immediate response to the Cyber Crime File” and lists a file number. It goes on to state that serious action will be taken within 24 hours. The notice bears the name Richard Boyce Barbados Commissioner of Police and gives the address Roebuck Street, Bridgetown, St Michael.”

Police are warning the public not to respond, stressing that the Police Service does not issue such notices via online messaging platforms.

Investigations will be launched into the source of the message, the TBPS said.
