BABA Premier League finals postponed again

The much anticipated Barbados Amateur Basketball Association’s (BABA) Co-Operators General Insurance Premier League finals have been delayed yet again.

In a release on June 8,  the BABA said the decision “allows our senior national men’s team to focus fully on their ongoing preparations for the FIBA AmeriCup Pre-Qualifiers, taking place in Georgetown, Guyana, from July 6–13, 2026.”

As a result, the Premier League finals will be played following the return of the national team.

This latest setback comes after issues at the island’s two indoor courts at the Wildey Gymnasium and Barbados Community College, resulted in the series being delayed on multiple occasions.

Following the completion of the semis on April 25, defending champions Burger King Clapham Bulls and CAM Smart Assurance City United Celtics advanced to the finals, but issues with the new floor at the Wildey Gymnasium initially delayed the completion of the season.

Celtics raised concerns that the court markings on the newly laid electronic floor, including the three-point arc, were drawn to NBA distances, rather than official international FIBA rules.

Efforts were later made to facilitate the Barbados Community College, but the hopes of players and fans were dashed once again after a lighting failure resulted in no play being possible in the opening game.
