St James man granted bail on assault and theft charges

A St James man has been granted $7 000 bail after appearing in court on charges of assault and theft, involving items valued at nearly $9 000.

Dwayne Marlon Alexcio Drakes, a 42-year-old maintenance man, of Denny’s Road, Thorpes, St James, is accused of assaulting Jakia Lynch and stealing a $7 500 motorcar, a handbag, purse, cellphone, cash and bank and identification cards, all with a total value of $8 995, belonging to Lynch on June 2.

Magistrate Manila Renee read the charges, telling Drakes that he was not required to enter a plea as they were indictable.

No objection was made to his release, but the accused was warned to stay away from the complainant.

The case was adjourned until November 18.
