BDF deploys advance party to Venezuela

An advance team from the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) is currently deployed in earthquake-affected Venezuela for the purpose of establishing its Field Medical Hospital.

The team accompanied by Ambassador to Venezuela, Commander Aquinas Clarke, left the island on Friday along with officials of the Venezuelan Embassy.

It is currently conducting preliminary site assessments and coordination, pending formal authorisation of full-scale deployment.

Meanwhile, Barbados has also sent a search and rescue team consisting of members of the BDF and the Barbados Fire Service who arrived in Venezuela on Saturday night. The team is equipped with Urban Search and Rescue Equipment and is headed by BDF Captain Shawn Brome. (II/BGIS)
