Pensioner found dead in car in St John

An elderly man has been found dead inside a car in St John, prompting a police investigation and the detention of a close relative as enquiries continue.

District ‘B’ police confirmed that the grim discovery was made at approximately 6:30 a.m. in the rural district of Ashford, St John.

A man, identified as a close relative and a primary person of interest, has been taken into police custody and is currently assisting law enforcement with their enquiries.

While detectives remain tight-lipped about the motive, area residents painted a harrowing picture of a domestic dispute that escalated into violence. According to accounts circulating within the community, the tragedy stems from an ongoing financial disagreement following the death of the suspect’s mother just five weeks prior.

“It is an absolute tragedy for the community,” one resident remarked. “The family was already grieving the loss of the mother, and now, within the space of a month, both the mother and the father will have to be buried under the worst possible circumstances.”

Barbados TODAY understands that a witness saw the body of the elderly man in the driver’s seat of his car.

The vehicle was cordoned off by forensic investigators as a crime scene, and the body was  removed pending a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Police are urging members of the public who may have heard or witnessed anything unusual in Ashford or surrounding districts between Sunday night and Monday morning to come forward.
