Olympian Matthew Wright is among the first 35 athletes named by the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) for the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in the Dominican Republic.

The games, which will take place from July 24 to August 8, will see a total of 140 Barbadian athletes compete across 21 sporting disciplines.

Wright, who recently competed at the Americas Triathlon Championships in Chile, finished 12th in the elite race. He also secured a bronze medal at the 2023 CAC Games.

The group also includes another 2023 CAC bronze medalist, boxer Jabali Breedy, as well as leading track cyclists Amber Joseph and Arielle Greaves.

In a release, BOA President Sandra Osborne said the CAC Games represent a celebration of excellence, perseverance and regional unity.

“Representing Barbados at these games is often an athlete’s first opportunity to compete for Barbados at regional multi-sport games. While there are many others who are seasoned competitors at this level, we felt it was important to introduce Team Barbados in stages, allowing each athlete and each sport to receive the recognition they have earned,” Bourne stated.

Team members from badminton, boxing, chess, cycling, golf, rugby, tennis, and triathlon have been named in the first group. Chef de Mission Dr Adrian Lorde said the announcement marked the beginning of an exciting journey for Team Barbados.
