Several Barbadians in action as the CAC Games continue

Barbadian sprinter Kelia Bentham booked her place in the women’s 200 metres final with a season’s best performance as the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games continued in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday.

Competing in semifinal two, Bentham finished second in 23.20 seconds to secure her spot in the final. 

In the men’s 200m, Barbadians Aragorn Straker and Kuron Griffith exited at the semifinal stage. Straker finished sixth in semifinal two in 21.22 seconds and did not advance, while Griffith was fourth in semifinal three in 20.67 seconds and also missed out on a place in the final.

Barbadian shooter Tesonna Alleyne finished 14th in the precision section and ninth in the rapid segment of the women’s 25m qualification.

In the qualification round of the women’s 10m air rifle, the trio of Brodella Ramchere, Camara Williams and Calleah Walcott finished 14th, 20th and 21st respectively.

It was also a tough day for table tennis player Tre Riley in the men’s singles competition. Playing in the round of 32 he was defeated  11-7, 11-6, 11-9, 11-6 by Venezuela’s Raymundo Medina.

In squash news from Tuesday’s evening session, the men’s doubles pair of Khamal Cumberbatch and Darien Benn was defeated by Josue Enriquez and Alejandro Enriquez of Guatemala 11-6,11-1.

In more news from the squash courts, the Barbadian mixed doubles pair of Amanda Haywood and Darien Benn were beaten by Jose Toscano and Winifer Bonilla of Guatemala 7-11, 11-2, 11-2. 

Also on Tuesday, the Barbadian netball team was defeated 61-39 by Trinidad and Tobago. This result followed a 56-25 opening game win over Bermuda

In better news for the English-speaking Caribbean teams, St Lucia defeated Dominican Republic 49-22, while Jamaica hammered Bermuda 79-19.

Skateboard competitor Tarryn Alleyne was sixth in a field of 10 competitors in the men’s street prelims as he advanced to Wednesday’s final, while the evening session on the athletics track saw two Barbadians competing in the 400m semis.

Among the men, Desean Boyce clocked 52.35 seconds  in semifinal three to finish sixth and did not advance, while among the women, Asia Foster was fourth in semifinal two, in 53.32 seconds as she also failed to advance.
