Tropical depression could form in Atlantic this week

A tropical depression could form over the Atlantic during the latter half of this week, according to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC).
In its Tropical Weather Discussion issued Monday morning, the NHC said a low-pressure system is forecast to move slowly across the eastern Atlantic and merge with a tropical wave in the coming days.
Environmental conditions are forecast to become more conducive for development by midweek.
“A tropical depression could form during the latter half of this week while the system moves westward to west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic,” the NHC said.
Forecasters have given the system a medium chance of tropical development within the next seven days.
Meanwhile, three tropical waves are moving westward across the Atlantic between West Africa and the Lesser Antilles.
One of the waves is located near 55 degrees west, extending from 13 to 24 degrees north and moving west at about 15 knots. The NHC said Saharan air surrounds the wave and no significant convection is currently accompanying it.
Another tropical wave, near 43 degrees west, is moving west at around 15 knots, while a third, along 26 degrees west, is moving westward at 10 to 15 knots.
The NHC said it is monitoring two areas with the potential for tropical cyclone formation during the coming week.
