Man remanded on assault charges

A 24-year-old Paddock Road man accused of assaulting a woman on two separate occasions has been remanded to Dodds Prison until August 21 after the prosecution objected to bail.

Ronaldo Antonio Saviola Simmons, of 2nd Avenue Paddock Road, St Michael, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Douglas Frederick and pleaded not guilty to assaulting Natesha Jack, occasioning her actual bodily harm, on July 23.

He also denied assaulting Jack on Tuesday.

When the matter of bail arose in the No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court, prosecutor Reginald Blackman objected, citing fears that Simmons may be a danger to the complainant and the public, the possibility that he may reoffend, the strength of the evidence, the provision of a medical report, and concerns in the community about the accused’s behaviour.

Bail was denied and the accused was remanded until August 21, when the complainant is expected to appear.
