(Photo Credit: Jenique Belgrave) Triggering a bond two months after it was implemented, Mario Michael Rommell Lamar Murrell will now spend one year behind bars at Dodds Prison for stealing from a City store. The 37-year-old of Beckles Road St Michael had just confessed to stealing a radio valued $119 belonging to Prosales on August 24 and having apparatus intended for the misuse of cocaine on August 25 before Magistrate Manila Renee in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates Court. The guilty pleas increased his number of convictions to 27. Prosecutor Sergeant Kenmore Phillips told the court that on August 23, Murrell took a phone to the store to be repaired. He returned the next day to enquire about the device and, when the complainant, who works at the store, went to check, Murrell removed the radio and left the store. The cashier informed the complainant that he had not paid for the device. The incident was reported to police, and Murrell was taken into custody the following day. He was searched, and the apparatus was found. The court was informed that Murrell’s last appearance in court was in June, when he was placed on a six-month bond to keep the peace or serve three months in prison. “Yes ma’am, I know I broke the bond. I have a drug problem,” he said. Magistrate Renee: “Your last conviction was as recent as June, before that every single year practically you have been in prison. You are 37 years and have a long list of convictions. You must try and do better. Get help when you go up there.” The magistrate ordered him to serve 12 months, to run concurrently with the three months for the breach. Murrell received a conviction, reprimand and discharge for the apparatus. (JB)
