General worker fined $2 500 for cocaine

Three months.

This is the deadline given to general worker Romaro Shane Rashan Lewis of King William Street to pay a $2 500 fine after pleading guilty to cocaine offences.

The 36-year-old appeared in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court and pleaded guilty to being in possession of, trafficking and intending to supply a quantity of cocaine on September 6.

The drugs weighed 5.25 grammes and had an estimated street value of $262.50.

The court heard that police were on duty at Savvy on the Bay when they observed the accused, who was wearing a black cross-body bag, behaving in a suspicious manner. He was approached, told of their suspicions and consented to a search. The drugs were found in a transparent bag.

Asked to give an account, Lewis told the court that he had found the drugs at a bus stop.

Magistrate Jared Richards convicted, reprimanded and discharged him on the possession and trafficking charges, and fined him $2 500 for the offence of intending to supply.

Lewis will face two months in Dodds Prison if the fine is not paid by December 7.
