Residents and motorists in western Barbados are being warned of possible flooding and traffic delays as heavy showers and thunderstorms affect parts of the island.

The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) issued a flash-flood warning on Thursday afternoon, with western and northwestern districts expected to receive between one and three inches of rainfall.

The Met Office warned that runoff from higher elevations could cause flooding along roads and at the foot of hillsides, while landslips and soil erosion are also possible.

The warning remains in effect until 6 p.m., unless conditions warrant an earlier termination.

The public is urged to follow guidance from the Department of Emergency Management and monitor official weather updates.
