Nicholls steps down as Transport Board chairman

The Chairman of the Transport Board Gregory Nicholls has resigned..

Nicholls confirmed to Barbados TODAY that he had parted ways with the state-owned entity but did not offer further comment.

He was appointed as chairman shortly after the ruling Barbados Labour Party took office following the May 24 general election.

  • The fact that Nicholls is making so much of a point that he was not fired, tells a real story.

In another media, "ATTORNEY GREGORY NICHOLLS took to Facebook yesterday to defend his name, stating he was not fired as chairman of the board of directors of the Transport Board, neither was he accused of any infelicities.

“I have resigned as chairman of the board of directors of the Transport Board today. I was not fired nor was I accused of any infelicities during my tenure.

“All of the instances of [problems] . . . concerning the Transport Board occurred before my tenure and are well documented in the provisional report of the Auditor General who has just completed a special audit of the board.

When this report is published, you will all get to see how difficult it was to turn around the Transport Board given the poor shape in which I inherited it,” Nicholls stated in the post.

Who cares what state it was in when you inherited it? This government came to power promising much, particularly for transport. So far with two ministers in the ministry, now one heading the board have delivered nothing but retrenchment, and a fare increase. This has nothing to do with Nicholls, but a government who has bitten off more than they can chew.

  • yes Mia Mottley, I like your style put your foot down and continue to stamp authority. You don't have to disrespect them but speak your mind and whoever wants to go let them go. All those chairmen and board members were chosen by ministers and if you can see a problem and speak to it, why can't them? ruffle some feathers if you have to. Don't be a Freundel Stuart

  • Harry ..dont be a scapegoat..address the issue this has nothing to do with the dlp..u poor misguided fellow..at least carl..decided not to touch this one...if u went to sleep and failed to dream you would blame the dlp....

  • She told reporters then: “I am upset with what has transpired on a number of fronts and… when I could not be in the country because obviously, I was away, I asked two of my Ministers Cynthia Forde and Kay McConney to go and visit the bus terminals and to interact with commuters in this
country to make sure that things were going smoothly.

“I was horrified at the report which they brought back to me… and most of it relates to the conditions of the terminals, the inability to communicate with the commuters and the absence continually of buses.”

But at least two board members of the state-owned bus company who requested anonymity suggested to Barbados TODAY that Nicholls’ departure was on the cards.

One board member said: “I’m not surprised because the way things went in that meeting I was expecting it. The Prime Minister wasn’t pleased with how things were going and she let him know how she felt.”

Another director said Nicholls had been walking on eggshells for the last few months, suggesting that Nicholls had also angered Mottley by speaking out of turn.

These are the reasons given by members of the board's management committee.

It is stated that the PM was not pleased with Nicholls for announcing the implementation of electric buses before signing an agreement.
So who should be angered by the PM's announcement about interest in Medical Marijuana by Canadian companies before any agreement is signed? The more talk about this resignation, the better for Barbadians.

Surprising no one has mentioned anything about the alleged termination from the L E S C as yet. It's alleged that one Lovell fellow has been terminated/resigned from Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Conference Center. I understand it's being kept under cover, as three senior ministers are in negotiations to have the decision withdrawn. The last time there was disturbances of this nature within the cabinet, it lead to the PM losing control, a motion of no confidence, and an election. (Sandiford, Simmons, Hall, Tony Arthur, BTA)

Where is Carl Harper in these times of impending turmoil though?

  • ""how much does a chairman of a statutory board make anyhow ?""

Not much. Its an all name job.

  • @PATTY...why did ESTWICK and LASHLEY withdraw at the LAST MINUTE to allow VERLA and IRENE to operate on the FIRST and SECOND floors? was that move ENGINEERED in an effort to save the TWO AH DEM from continuing in their LOSING MODE?
Think that should be more of a concern to you and your fellow YARD FOWLS since at least one of DEM now appears to have regretted doing such after he was ignored for a SPOKESMAN pick.
....and why all of a SUDDEN, GOOD NIGHT IRENE NOW has a VOICE after SHE too was IGNORED.
How allya expect to be recognized as being united and trying to convince the MASSES that wunna SERIOUS with all that jobby going on?
Wunna think that people doan know wha going on down dey?
Yet,that PATTY again LATCHES on to ANYTHING that has BLP marked on it.

  • how much does a chairman of a statutory board make anyhow ?, probably was making way more as a practicing lawyer .that chairmanship probably just got in the way .
