PM Mottley: Hold on to the end

Prime Minister Mia Mottley knows that some Barbadians and supporters of the ruling BLP may not be entirely satisfied with their personal gains over the party’s first year in office. But she has reminded Barbadians that the sacrifices made, will lead to success in the end.

Mottley was addressing hundreds of party members and citizens during a Sunday morning service at the James Street Methodist church as the ruling BLP began celebrations to commemorate the first year in office after its resounding victory at the polls on May 24, 2018.

“I want to say to the people of Barbados that this has been an amazing start and it could not be without you. We made it very clear from day one that we couldn’t do this job alone and that we needed all hands on deck.

“Yesterday we had a ten-hour marathon session and we reminded the country again that we need all hands on deck. The battles that we face – some we anticipated and others we have found; but all we have to confront, and with your help as a nation and your help one by one and with your good will, I am confident that we shall be victorious in transforming our nation,” she promised.

In attendance were numerous MPs, members of Cabinet and ambassadors and members of the ‘BLP family’, who PM Mottley addressed directly.

“I want to thank now the family of the Barbados Labour Party. We are nothing without you and you have helped us carry this journey. Some of you may not yet have had all of your wishes and aspirations satisfied. You have had to help lift heavy weight and we are conscious of it. But we also know that Rome was not built in a day.

“Just as we set a simple target to be capable of saving our dollar, which we have done, I ask the country now as I have done in every speech this week and as I will continue to do, to join us in the next mission. The difficulty is that this is not a short term mission. This is the ‘real-real’ mission. To be the best that we can be…If we can be the best that we can be, I promise you that this country shall rise in glory and be a beacon that all will come to emulate across the world,” promised Mottley. • The poor holding onto the hope that The Creator will intervene.....if we expect the Gov. to do anything, it will ONLY be another tax !!

Are you going to delete our comments BT, frightened of the truth, it comes out bit, by bit on social media :)

  • James Street church building is an average size sanctuary and they could not fill the building. It's clear even the faithful have abandoned the B L P. Normally a B L P church service in Bridgetown would have filled a chapel the size of James Street Church. Clearly this party is being followed by the 'song and dance' posse. Only when Mia giving away a free ride, food, and dancing does she attract a health crowd.

Clearly people with bills to pay, children to attend to, and regular family responsibilities, especially those who have lost their jobs, have already turned their backs on Mia. They simply can't stay the course, because they can't manage the trip. Though the wheels on bus Barbados are turning slowly (two speeds 'dead slow and stop') the people still can't keep up.

Clearly she is fighting a losing battle against time, debt reduction without growth won't create job, new business, or new business persons. Leaving the international debt unsettled will certainly not attract new foreign investors either. Heaven help us should we get any significant increase in oil prices from source markets. We currently have no cushion to land on, it's all rough road under us.

  • DE...I dont know bout you but i poor and I up to my head sinking under these increases. Cost of living increase nearly 2 fold, NSRL comeoff and prices still gone up, I got to ride my bike longer cause cant afford busfare.
I was holding on before but now this is rape.

  • @BRANDON MARSHALL, what you are saying is not new to bajans. All of that was done under the previous administration.

  • @3RDSUN
The white folks at White Oaks gine hold on till de end. The 10 consultants gine hold on till de end. The 29 MPs gine hold on till be end. The poor people can’t hold on no more.

This is so funny. 3RDSUN what was the poor people holding on to before?

  • I understand what has to be done for the country to recover from the life threatening surgery that was performed by the past administration. What i do not understand is the quality service and functionality pouring out from a lot of those government office. The one I am most concern about is Parcel Post at the GPO, where it is taking you two or more month to get an item from that institution.
What is even worse, is if there is no tracking number, only God can help you.
When you call that institution and you do not have a tracking number, you cannot even give then the name of the recipient to track it in their system. That is very poor service.

  • @CCC - at this point does it really matter?

@3rd Sun - So funny. Could be made a calypso.

  • Yea maam...we gine hold on to the end.DEM in had no voice since last year...DEM now communicating in SIGN LANGUAGE jack, with most of DEM not understanding the finger movements since they are always pointing in the WRONG DIRECTIONS resulting in DIFFERENT VIEWS on the SAME SUBJECTS.
