Atherley launches People’s Party for Democracy and Development

The People’s Party for Democracy and Development is the newest political party to join Barbados’ political fray.
The party, led by Opposition leader, Bishop Joseph Atherley, was officially launched this morning at the Courtyard Marriott.
Atherley says the party is of socialist democratic orientation and abides by the slogan God, Growth, and Peace.
“God comes first, and growth is our pursuit and passion and it is to greatness that we all should aspire as a nation,” Atherley said.
He said the political philosophy of the political party seeks to center its policies and governance around the growth and development of the people of Barbados.
“We are a party for the people. We are a party born from the circumstances of national crisis . . . which has a serious threat to our country’s liability,” he explained.
The party’s symbol is the breadfruit lead and its party colour is green.
Atherley disclosed that the party was created on November 1, 2018.  He presented some of its members to the public including Senator Crystal Drakes, Senator Caswell Franklyn, Scott Weatherhead, Bruce Hennis, Paul Forte, Maria Phillips, Sylvan Greenidge, Paul Gibson, Reverend Paul Leacock, Harvey Barrett, Akil Daley, Dr Philip Corbin, Rosaline Corbin and several who were not present.
