Trio remanded on gun, other serious charges

Three St Michael men are spending their first night of 28 on remand while awaiting trial in connection with a number of offences including some under the Firearms Act.

Kymani Tyrell Anderson Lewis, 22, of Wavell New Development, Black Rock; 24-year-old Chad Tristan Carlisle Cumberbatch, of Near Stanmore Lodge, Black Rock; and Kohbi Antonio Carter, 23, of Retreat Terrace, Black Rock, are jointly charged with recklessly discharging a firearm along Walmer Lodge, a public place, without lawful authority or excuse, which placed Kiastan Clarke in danger of death or serious bodily harm.

They could not plead to the indictable charge which occurred on March 1, in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court when they appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick today.

Lewis and Cumberbatch are also charged with using a firearm while committing the same offence. That offence was also indictable.

Carter is alleged of having possession of a camouflage vest on March 9. He pleaded not guilty to the charge while Lewis said he was not guilty of possession of cannabis on the same date.

All three were represented by attorneys-at-law – Lewis by Shadia Simpson, Carter by Angella Mitchell-Gittens and Cumberbatch had Neville Reid as his legal counsel.

The accused will make their next court appearance on April 9.
