Man remanded on charge of breaching curfew and other offences

A 33-year-old self-employed man was remanded for the next 28-days after being charged with breaking the national 24-hour  COVID-19 curfew and several other criminal offences.

However, Shane Lamar Hoyte, of Block 81D, Parkinson Field, Pinelands, St Michael pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him when he appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Hoyte is accused of assaulting Natasha Prentice on April 8 causing her bodily harm as well as unlawfully and maliciously wounding Vere Agard.

On that same day he is alleged to have damaged a door belonging to Agard. He is further accused of using the threatening words “I gine kill you” towards Agard, which caused Agard to believe that immediate and unlawful violence would be used against him.

It is further alleged he was outdoors around at 2:40 p.m. on April 8 without a reasonable excuse when the COVID-19 curfew was in effect.

Sergeant Vernon Waithe objected to his bail on the grounds of the serious nature of the charges and the fact that the accused was already on bail on other pending matters. The prosecutor submitted that a national curfew was also in place at the time when the alleged offences are said to have occurred.

Hoyte, who did not make a successful bail application, was remanded to Dodds until May 8 by Magistrate Wayne Clarke. (FW)
