No more violence, magistrate tells teen

A social inquiry has been launched into the life of a young man who struck his pregnant girlfriend during an argument.

It was revealed in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court today that 19-year-old Kezra Kemal Lewis-Wilson, of Forde Road, Country Road, Garden Land, St Michael and his 18-year-old girlfriend Tianna St Pierre have been in a relationship for the past five years.

Sergeant Edwin Pinder said on May 4 the first-time offender went over to St Pierre’s residence where they were involved in an argument. During the quarrel he cuffed and beat her about the body which resulted in St Pierre sustaining soft tissue injury. The matter was reported to police.

Today Lewis-Wilson told the court, “I hit her once. I hit she in her face and she spin round and drop.”

Magistrate Graveney Bannister questioned his reason for using such violence telling Lewis-Wilson that he had been in a relationship for a number of years and should have been able to handle an argument.

“It was self defence,” the teenager said, while admitting that he was the father of the baby.

“People have arguments but there is no need to go to this extreme. No more violence,” Bannister told Lewis-Wilson who revealed that he was unemployed.

“You are a prospective father and you need to find work, something constructive,” said the magistrate who explained that the teen could wash cars or perform other tasks that could garner income.

Lewis-Wilson was then warned not to interfere, beat or threaten the pregnant woman in any way.

A report has also been ordered in preparation for sentencing. He returns to court on July 1.
