Alcohol made me do it, says Thorpe

Anthony Rudolph Thorpe

Well known thief Anthony Rudolph Thorpe said he was intoxicated when he stole a box of candy from a wholesale business.

Now the 63-year-old, of Derricks, St James is on remand for the next 28 days awaiting his fate.

He pleaded guilty before Magistrate Douglas Frederick today to stealing the $30 box of candy belonging Premier Wholesale on May 15.

Station Sergeant Cameron Gibbons said Thorpe’s actions on the day caused a worker at the Whitepark Road facility to become suspicious and the matter was reported. A check of CCTV footage saw him taking up the item. The convict was arrested the following day.

“I was under the influence of alcohol,” Thorpe said in his defence before he was remanded by the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court until June 15 pending sentence.
