Bowen in the winners’ circle

SHELBYVILLE, Indiana – Barbadian Rocco Bowen and Jamaican Jermaine Bridgmohan logged wins on Tuesday’s 11-race card at the Indiana Grand Race Course, to remain in the top-10 of the jockeys’ standings.

Bowen moved his tally of wins for the season – which ends on Thursday – to 39, putting him ninth in the standings, one place ahead of Bridgmohan, whose aggregate of wins stand at 32.

Bridgmohan was the first to get his name in the frame, when he won 1 ½-lengths clear aboard the 3-1 chance Vivian in the US $11,000 fourth race, a 1,100-metre dash on the dirt track.

The Jamaican jockey put the four-year-old chestnut filly to chase the pace from the four-path through the turn and came into the lane from the middle of the track before challenging for the lead seven-wide near the eighth pole and clearing out soon after to hold for a time of one minute, 05.83 seconds.

Bowen followed up with a pillar-to-post victory, winning one length clear astride the 2-1 chance Izzy B in the US $11,000 sixth race over 1,200m on the dirt.

The Barbadian jockey pressed the three-year-old, bay filly between foes, duelled with second-place finisher Diamond Dawn, under Rodney Prescott, on the inside in the stretch and was clear at the wire under mild urging to clock 1 min, 14.18 seconds.
