BL&P brightens Christmas for two groups of seniors

The Barbados Light & Power Company recently descended upon two senior citizens homes to share joy and season’s greetings with the residents and staff.

Under the theme “Brighten Your Christmas” for another year, Manager Communications and Government Relations Jackie Marshall-Clarke explained that the effort was part of the Company’s end-of-year Corporate Social Responsibility, which had reached other groups over the course of 2020.

“We wanted to bring cheer to our seniors because they would have been affected this year since visitors, out of necessity, would have been a rarity since March,” added Marshall-Clarke.

The activity, which was carefully planned to include health protocols, meant that only a limited number of Light & Power’s employees could participate and the visit was done on the outside of the homes.

Terry ‘Mexican’ Arthur and Stedson ‘Red Plastic Bag’ Wiltshire (RPB) performed for the seniors at both homes. Mexican serenaded them on the steel pan and was accompanied by Willie Kerr on guitar and RPB belted out several of his hits such as I Am Alive, Boat Ride, Something’s Happening, Ragga Ragga and his Christmas classic, Maizie.

RPB said, “It was indeed a joy to see the smiles on the faces of the elderly. To have the opportunity to share in that was special and I want to commend Light & Power for what was a wonderful thing to do for the elderly who are our precious gems.”

Matron at the Gentle Folks Nursing
Home Janise Belgrave said, “Thank you for blessing our elders who were the
Nation-builders.”

Matron at the Good Citizens Nursing Home Marcia Brathwaite-Reece said, “Thank you for remembering us at this time of year. This event made us happy.”

The Light & Power team also presented both homes with gift baskets for each resident and hampers of food. (PR)
