Yarde fined for weed

An unemployed man has 12 weeks to pay the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court a $350 fine.

If Kemal Akeem Yarde, of Rock Gap, Spooners Hill, St Michael, fails to pay up, he will spend three months in prison.

Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes imposed the fine after he heard the details of charges of cannabis possession, possession with intent to supply and trafficking, brought against Yarde.

A search warrant was executed at Yarde’s residence on Boxing Day, December 26, and herb weighing 220 grammes was found in a haversack.

Yarde took responsibility for the drugs first when police asked him to account and then again before the magistrate.

His attorney Angella Mitchell-Gittens said that should go in her client’s favour, as he had not wasted judicial time, and she asked the court to be as lenient as possible on Yarde.
