Data shows Barbados is set to have the highest proportion of female travellers from the UK than any other country in the world.

Travel health experts, Practio has analysed 10 years of Office for National Statistics (ONS) data, looking at every single trip made out of the UK and where they were heading.

Using the in-depth analysis, researchers have been able to forecast ahead and make predictions for the future of travel.

By looking at all visits out of the UK for the past ten years, the research has been able to find differences between males and females and their travel habits.

Researchers viewed a breakdown of visits and percentage of where each gender visits. This revealed a much clearer picture of habits and destinations for different genders.

The data showed in 2019 Barbados ranked in the top three, leading the way for destinations travelled to by females in the UK, with a staggering 64% of all visits to Barbados made by females.

Barbados remains at the top for the next 30 years, with female journeys to the country increased at a compound average growth rate of 7.04 per cent per year. In 2030, it is predicted 250,393 females will visit Barbados accounting for 73.26 per cent of all predicted visits to the country from the UK.

In total, it is predicted that holidaying Brits both male and female will spend a total of £670,415,954.24 in 2030 in Barbados, that’s £2,042 spent per visit to the country.

If travel opens up in 2021, Barbados could expect 177,954 visitors to the country from the UK, with Brits predicted to spend a staggering £271,122,897.79.

Commenting on the research, Dr Jonas Nilsen, managing director and co-founder of Practio said: “We wanted to pull this exhaustive research together to understand UK travel trends over the past ten years, but also to give us an idea of what this means for travel in the future.

Travel was mostly out of the question in 2020 and many of us are hoping for its return in 2021. By predicting future trends, we can better equip travellers and businesses that thrive off tourism by helping them to prepare for what’s to come and how they can make the most of Brits’ travel habits.

“It’s also been great to see some of the emerging trends and how travel is changing, we’re seeing the go-to destinations start to change with more money being spent in countries further afield, which should be a good sign for the future of the travel industry beyond the pandemic.”
