Police probe robbery and shooting at Bayville Minimart

Police are investigating a shooting which occurred at Bayville Minimart, Bayville, St Michael around 7:16 p.m. on Monday, August 9.

Police Public Relations Officer Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss said lawmen, from the Hastings-Worthing Police station, initially received a report that a robbery had taken place at the minimart and responded.

Inniss said, on arrival, the officers were informed that a man entered the establishment “with a firearm, proceeded to the cashier, and demanded her to place the money into a plastic bag which he handed to her.”

The perpetrator then proceeded to an aisle and instructed “a customer to place some liquor in the said plastic bag, during this a shot was fired which injured the said customer in his left knee.”

A female employee also sustained an injury to her left foot.

“The assailant then ran away from the scene,” the police spokesman said.

Police transported the injured male customer to the Winston Scott Polyclinic for treatment. The female employee was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.

Investigations continue.
