Teen admits to making death threats

A teenager has admitted that he threatened to kill a woman earlier this month.

He has, however, denied assaulting her.

Zico Ricardo Harewood, of No 15 Oakway Regent Hill, St Michael is charged with assaulting Lana Alexis Nicholls, causing her actual bodily harm, and using threatening words, “If you don’t drop the case I gone f**king kill you,” towards her on March 14.

The 19-year-old threatened the woman again the next day, saying, “You Lana I gine kill you. I gine shoot you”.

He denied the assault charge but pleaded guilty to issuing the threats.

In the facts outlined, the court heard that the convicted man is the nephew of the father of the complainant’s children. They had a previous altercation which resulted in Harewood throwing rocks on the top of her house.

On the first-mentioned date, Harewood saw Nicholls walking along Golden Rock, St Michael and issued the threat. The following day, he saw the woman and again threatened her. The matter was reported to the police.

Constable Ralph Rollock objected to bail on the assault charge at this time, saying that while Harewood was not known to the court, the prosecution believed he would interfere with the complainant if he was allowed to go free.

“These are serious matters,” the prosecutor contended.

In his application for bail, Harewood told Magistrate Kim Butcher: “All I want to say is that I very sorry from my heart and I would like a chance, please.”

However, he was remanded until April 14 on the assault charge.

A presentencing report has been ordered in respect of the guilty pleas and Harewood is expected before the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on May 17.
