Accused get lawyers

Lawyers are now involved in a High Court case in which four men are accused of aggravated burglary.

The men, who will continue to be on remand pending trial, were previously unrepresented by legal counsel. They were scheduled to go on trial on Wednesday. However Justice Carlisle Greaves issued legal aid certificates and remanded them after they made certain statements to the No. 3 Supreme Court in the absence of the prospective jurors.

Now, attorney-at-law Ajamu Boardi is representing Leross Leandre Burnett, of Bartletts Tenantry, Christ Church; Kyle Walkes is appearing for Dale Moore, of Chapman Village, St Thomas while Kemar Romal Griffith, of Woodland Grazettes, St Michael has Rasheed Belgrave as his attorney. Dwayne Ryan Omar Caesar, of Pegwell Bottom, Christ Church, is represented by Safiya Moore.

The case is being prosecuted by Senior Crown Counsel Neville Watson.

The four will remain on remand until May 11 when their cases will again be mentioned in the No. 3 Supreme Court.

They are accused of entering as trespassers the house of Terry Ramsay on October 11, 2016, and stealing $1 040 cash, a necklace, and a cellular phone valued at $2 839 and belonging to Lystra Ifill. It is further alleged that they stole three bottles of cognac, five bottles of whiskey, a bottle of vodka, one wrist watch, a digital recorder and $60 cash, all belonging to Ramsay  and carrying an approximate value of $8 976. The charge alleges that they had a firearm at the time of the offence.
