Youth appears on murder charge

Twenty-year-old Jakobe Jaheem Yarde was remanded to Dodds today on murder and other criminal charges.

The Nurse Land, Bank hall, St Michael resident is accused of killing 25-year-old Jerome Stuart, of 8th Avenue, New Orleans, St Michael on April 16.

According to a police report Stuart was pronounced dead on arrival at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital following a shooting incident at Baxter’s Road, St Michael.

Yarde could not plead to the indictable charge before Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes when he appeared before the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

The accused, who is represented by attorneys-at-law Michael Lashley Q.C, Simon Clarke and Sade Harris also could not enter a plea to the charge of using an illegal firearm on the same date.

Pleas also could not be entered on the charges that he unlawfully and maliciously engaged in conduct that placed Michael Preville and Cejay Ifill in danger of death or serious bodily harm or that he did serious bodily harm to Steve Hackett and Rasheed Bishop with intent to maim, disfigure or disable them or to do serious bodily harm to them.

Yarde will make his next appearance before the court on June 9, a date to which he consented.

In the meantime his attorneys have put on record the submission for early pretrial disclosure to be served on them.
