Attorney-at-law Ezra Alleyne has died

Prominent Attorney-at-law Ezra Alleyne has passed away at the age of 78.

Alleyne, a long-standing member of the Barbados Labour Party served as Deputy Speaker of the House from 1967-1968 and as a Member of Parliament for St Michael North West from 1976 to 1981.

Alleyne, an attorney for more than five decades, attended Queen Mary University of London and the Council of Legal Education of the Inns of Court in London. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1970 and is known for successfully defending Ronald Biggs who was known as the train robber in extradition proceedings in 1981.

Alleyne, who served as a legal adviser to the Public Utilities Board for a decade, was also regarded for his expertise in international business law; double taxation treaties; constitutional and corporate law.

He leaves to mourn his wife Tassiea and four children, Gayle, Daun, Nathan and Alistair.
