Maloney in big hotel project in Guyana

Prominent local developer, Mark Maloney has been named among investors in a major hotel project in Guyana, Stabroek News has reported.

The newspaper said Maloney, who is also one of the developers behind the Hyatt Resort here that is due to start construction this year, is partnering with a Guyanese

businessmen for the 186-room Embassy Suites by Hilton which will be constructed on the Liliendaal Railway Embankment, Greater Georgetown.

Stabroek news said the announcement of the modern seven-storey hotel was made on President Irfaan Ali’s Facebook page at the weekend,  The hotel will be constructed on 2.5 acres in close proximity to the Arthur Chung Conference Centre and CARICOM Secretariat.

Chief Investment Officer and CEO of the Guyana Office for Investment, Dr Peter Ramsaroop told the Guyana daily that the developers have received all necessary permits from the Hilton franchise and the project is expected to be launched soon.

The Guyana hotel is expected to feature multi-functional convention and banquet facilities, meeting spaces with natural lighting, and outdoor terraces. The new accommodation will also offer amenities such as a 24-hour fitness studio, wellness treatment suites, outdoor swimming pool, parking facilities, airport taxi and limo services, and high speed internet.

Meanwhile, there is still no word on when construction on the Hyatt Hotel on Bay Street in Bridgetown will begin.

It was expected to get underway in 2019 but was disrupted because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Back in November last year, Prime Minister Mia Mottley during the official opening of the Golden Square Freedom Park suggested that the construction of the proposed Hyatt Centric Resort could commence early in 2022.
