BRA continues capacity building initiatives

The Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) has commenced training aimed at enhancing its service delivery.

For the next four weeks, over 90 staff members from the Authority’s frontline departments will be engaged in a series of sessions which focus on service excellence, fraud awareness, anti-money laundering, procedural awareness and enhancing tax technical knowledge.

Revenue Commissioner, Louisa Lewis-Ward, in providing the rationale behind the training, highlighted that the sessions are aimed at improving operations and service delivery at the tax-collecting agency.

“This training series is an excellent addition to the activities of the BRA Academy which delivers training across the Authority in conjunction with The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus (UWI).  This series forms part of our ongoing initiatives to empower staff with the knowledge and skills needed for enhancing our performance as a public sector institution,” she said.

“We are accountable to the public to deliver enhanced service and our efforts will ensure that our employees are well trained, empowered and technically competent to carry out their functions.  This goes hand in hand with the launch of our Customer Service Charter in the new year, as our teams document and are held accountable for maintaining service standards, a key pillar in building public trust.”

The training is scheduled to end on Wednesday, November 16.

The Barbados Revenue Authority is advising members of the public that during the period the Authority may, on some days, operate with a reduced staff complement in its customer-facing sections to facilitate the training exercise.
