Simmons wins Barbados’ first gold at CARIFTA 2023

Barbados has its first medal at the 50th edition of the CARIFTA GAMES in Nassau, Bahamas, and it’s gold.

Alexandra schoolgirl Ashlyn Simmons struck gold in the Under-17 girls 1500-metres in the evening session at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium.

The 16-year-old middle distance princess ran a perfectly executed race to clock 4:51.65 minutes.

Dena-Marie of Curacao took silver in 4:52.57 minutes while hometown girl Erin Barr won bronze in 4:54.09 minutes. (AG-B)
