Alleged supermarket burglar remanded to prison

The man who allegedly burglarised Channell Supermarket and injured a security guard last week has been remanded to Dodds Prison.

Theophilus Theo Holder of Block 2B Madison Terrace, Deacons Farm, St Michael, is accused of entering the supermarket located in Black Rock, St Michael as a trespasser, with a knife, and stealing $1 498.84 cash on April 12.

The 29-year-old is further alleged to have unlawfully and maliciously wounded David Alleyne on the same date.

When Holder appeared before Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on Monday, he could not enter any pleas as the charges are indictable, which means the matters can only be heard in the High Court.

Police prosecutor Ralph Rollock objected to bail based on the nature and seriousness of the offences; the allegation that a weapon was used in the commission of the offence; the fact that someone was injured; and the fear that the accused, who has previous convictions, will re-offend.

Constable Rock added that remanding Holder was for the protection of society.

In his application for bail, the accused man told the chief magistrate, among other things, “I did go to the establishment”.

Following the submissions, Weekes remanded Holder to jail until May 12.
