Lady Tridents off to winning start in CFU girls’ tournament

Barbados registered their first victory in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-14 girls’ challenge series with a well-deserved 2-0 win over Bonaire on Friday in Antigua & Barbuda.

The young Lady Tridents, coached by Fitzgerald Carter produced an impressive display from start to finish and were rewarded in the 32nd minute when Janiyah Nurse slotted home from close range.

Nurse latched onto a brilliant freekick by Gabrielle Birmingham and took the ball away from the Bonaire goalkeeper before passing the ball into an empty net to give Barbados the lead.

Bonaire hardly threatened, and it was no surprise when Barbados doubled their advantage thanks to Birmingham who produced a top-class strike to put the match to bed.

Barbados will take on hosts Antigua & Barbuda on Saturday at 7 p.m. (AGB)
