Man shot dead by men on motorcycle, say police

Detectives carrying out investigations at the scene at the Grotto on Beckles Road, St Michael where a 31-year-old man was fatally shot by unknown assailants.

Gunshots rang out on the typically bustling Beckles Road Wednesday afternoon, leaving one man dead in an apparent drive-by attack at the entrance of the Barbados Agricultural Society’s Grotto headquarters.

The victim, a 31-year-old man whose identity remains undisclosed pending family identification, was shot dead by two masked men on a motorcycle, around 2:35 p.m., according to police.

Lawmen said the victim had sought refuge in a vehicle when the gunmen opened fire but was fatally hit.

The other occupant of the car escaped unharmed.

Eyewitnesses in the area recalled hearing multiple gunshots.

“I see fellas on a motorcycle wearing masks, that is all I see, I hear about three or four gunshots,” one man said.

Police are urging anyone with information on the shooting to contact the Hastings/Worthing Police Station, Police Emergency, Crime Stoppers or the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). (RG)
