MoE: Cuthbert Moore Primary School cleared to reopen for classes on Monday

Cuthbert Moore Primary School has been cleared to reopen for classes on Monday, May 06.

Classes were suspended on Thursday after complaints of a foul odor were made. Environmental Health Officers visited the school in an effort to locate the source of the smell, but no odour was detected at the time.

Clerks of Work from the Education Technical Management Unit (ETMU) of the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training also visited the compound but could not detect the smell. A perimeter assessment was also conducted, and officers spoke to nearby residents but could not determine a possible source for the odour. Contact was also made with the owner of a nearby plantation who confirmed no pesticides had been used in recent times.

Out of precaution, the services of Jose y Jose were engaged on Friday to clean the school’s septic tank, manholes and grease traps, and to jettison the lines. Once work was completed, the grease traps were resealed.

The ETMU conducted a further assessment of the school plant on Saturday and Sunday to ensure the integrity of the work that was carried out. Thereafter, it was determined that the school was fit to be reopened for classes.

The Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training will continue to monitor conditions at the school, and thanks the Principal, teachers, support staff, students, parents and guardians for their patience and understanding.
